About a week and a half ago I received the sad news that our good friend Jim Banks had a heart attack. Jim means a lot to all of us, especially in the minority communities. He has been an outspoken ally for many causes and I know I appreciate all that he does. Many of his friends, colleagues and students are having a benefit. Below is the invitation. I urge everyone who loves a free spirit to go and show some love.

Wishing all the best for Jim Banks, who has been a real friend to immigrants, encouraging and supporting the development of artists and cultural events at WP's Farmingville community support center. The event sounds excellent - we will spread the word...

Prayers to Jim and the family he so loves. Jim and I have known each other since 1978 -- during our days as Supervising Child Care Workers for Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth Group Homes Program in Yaphank, where he worked in the house named after Family Court Judge Schraeder. Over the past few years we have had the chance to work together again through the Center for Holocaust, Diversity and Human Understanding, the Council for Prejudice Reduction, and the Southampton Anti-Bias Task Force. We will spread the word about this event. Thank you for organizing this program.
