In the News "Expect those not allowed on evacuation buses to be deported" - Is Suffolk County Far Behind?

I was extremely disturbed when I came across this article at Rio Grande Guardian. In the Rio Grande region in Texas, the local government has decided that those who are undocumented cannot get on evacuation buses in the case of a hurricane. Instead they will be held by Border Patrol in a "secure, hurricane-proof, building."

After watching the devastation of Hurricane Katrina unfold on the television the week before my wedding, I wonder why on earth we would ever want to put a human through something like that in our country ever again.

Local clergy and civic groups are pleading with their elected officials to change the rules. Many are afraid that they will have to choose whether to stay with their children who are US citizens and be deported, or stay in their homes and face danger. That is an awful decision for anyone to have to make.

Considering the Suffolk County Executive has it out for undocumented immigrants, could our county be far behind?
