Unfortunately, I guaged the meeting's progress on similar ones I attended in Farmingdale. The Farmingdale Village Board often keeps the most contentious item for the last, hoping most attendees will leave and they will be left with a remnant group who will vote as the board wishes.
By the time I arrived, the meeting had ended. My friends Carol and Midge from HIHI said it was a civil meeting for the most part and fairly well balanced in presentations. Most supporters felt that if they could be assured of the shap-up site's permanence, they would go along with some sort of ordinace for safety reasons.
Personally, I think that the consideration for safety is a hoax. Once they fold up the sidewalks, folks, they will let some time elapse and then work to close the shape up site. With no place for the men to look for work, Huntington's Day Labor problem will evaporate---just like that. Poof! So they believe.
