New York Mayor Bloomberg described current immigration restrictions as “insane” last week. The mayor also opined that by excluding highly educated workers and channeling them into countries like Britain and Canada, the U.S. is committing economic “suicide”.
With America’s standing in the world in a long, slow decline, the U.S. seems poised to diminish its greatest economic competitive advantage, the ability to take in and mobilize the brains and brawn of immigrants from around the world.
