Long Island's most prominent anti-immigration activist Jim Staudenraus went down to defeat yesterday in his bid to become the First Assembly District's rep in Albany. Staudenraus ran operations on Long Island for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), an organization classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. He was defeated by a wide margin by 29 year old Marc Alessi. In the election Alessi garnered 60% of the vote to 40% for Staudenraus.
