Newsday has an article about requests made today in the Suffolk Legislature by immigrant organizations for a new dialogue on creating a welcoming environment for everyone in Suffolk. With Steve Levy continuing to distance himself from Suffolk's Latinos, representatives of various groups hope that the legislature may be more receptive to opening channels of communications.
BTW, Joye Brown has a great article today on Suffolk's massaged hate-crime statisitics. Police Commissioner Dormer repeats the Levy mantra the he wants to "move on". Hopefully AG Cuomo will look into the undercounting of bias crimes against Latinos before Suffolk is allowed to do so.
Next election is coming 2009. If we want change, we have to make it happen.
