Newsday has a great editorial today ripping the Suffolk Legislature for reviving the anti-immigrant IR 1105. Here are some excerpts:
This is a bill that should have had the good grace to stay dead. Now, like a vampire imperfectly slain, it arises from the coffin and roams the land. We refer, of course, to the bill sponsored by Suffolk Legis. Brian Beedenbender, the rookie Democrat from Centereach who studied Anti-Immigration Posturing 101 at the feet of County Executive Steve Levy.
The bill would accomplish little or nothing, except to further stigmatize immigrants. Tabled in committee last month, it emerged on April 17, with the help of a vote by Presiding Officer William Lindsay (D-Holbrook). That's a shame. We shouldn't be wasting taxpayer dollars - or even taxpayer pennies - on it at all.
Make sure to call Legislator John Kennedy today and tell him you are against IR 1105.
