In the News Some Goodies As Promised....

Here are some goodies I collected from over the extended weekend..

The election is 5 (apparently VERY long) months away so the 24/7 news media keeps reincarnating stories....like "will Obama or McCain woo Hispanic voters" (this time courtesy of NPR). By the way if you're a political junkie (like me) check out the Sunlight Foundations new Politiquiz. It's fun and you get to learn some obscure political knowledge.

Joshua Holland of Alternet points out that the biggest enemy to comprehensive immigration reform might be language itself.

And on that subject, the New York Times ran an editorial on how Bush is claiming a false victory at the border fence. The New York Times has consistently pointed out that the border fence is a sham and without real immigration reform, we are just wasting our tax dollars.

Southern Poverty Law Center let's us know that FAIR has a new group and a new ad strategy....According to "America’s Leadership Team for Long Range Population-Immigration-Resource Planning," immigrants are to blame for traffic and ruining open space (you know because bulldozer sales are up and are only used on land immigrants own?)...and decided to publish the ads in The Nation and the New York Times . The ad in The Nation forced the publishers to make an editorial note that they have a liberal advertising policy and publish ads from groups that they don't agree with.

Learn English and Assimilate into society....but don't go to school! - USA Today ran an article about how some states are banning undocuments immigrants from entering college. Thousands of kids brought here when they were just months old, are being denied the right to better their lives...and encouraged to "go back to their own country" when the they have never stepped foot out of the United States.

Celebrating America's birthday has some immigrant flare to it in New York's Prospect Park according to another article in the New York Times.
