A vote on IR-1105 is set for Tuesday in the Suffolk Legislature. The Long Island Immigrant Alliance is calling for everyone opposed to the bill to turn out at the Legislature. The Legislature's meeting begins at 9:30am, but since we expect unions supporting the anti-immigrant measure to begin filling the seats in the main meeting room, we ask that you try to arrive before 9am. We also ask you to sign up to speak against the bill. You will be offered two choices, to sign up for the "hearing" or to sign upfor the"public portion". You should sign up for the public portion.
The public portion usually begins at around 10am and each speaker is called in the order in which he or she signed up. You will be given three minutes to speak.
We expect the vote on the bill to take place in the afternoon, so even if you can't get to the morning session to speak, please come to the afternoon session to hear the legislative debate and cheer on our supporters in the legislature.
Please mobilize your networks to attend this important legislative meeting.
Also, use this weekend to call the four legislators who are still not firmly committed to support IR-1105.
We urge you to call the following four legislators and tell them to oppose the bill:
Steve Stern 631-854-5100
Wayne Hosley 631-854-1100
John Kennedy 631-854-3735
Jay Schneiderman 631-852-8400
We still have a chance to beat this bill, but we need to pick up two of the four legislators named above. Use our toolkit for more info.
