Whenever the immigrant haters introduce legislation to drive Latinos out, they always couch the legislation in terms of protecting some important value. The current Suffolk legislation is no exception. It claims to protect workers against unscrupulous employers.
If Suffolk were serious about improving the lives of workers, they would be talking about enforcing minimum wage and overtime pay laws, not punishing hard-working immigrants and saddling taxpayers with the bill.
By going after immigrants and encouraging discrimination against Latinos generally, the bill will just drive workers further underground. Expect hyperexploitation to result.
Unfortunatelly these are the kind of bills that are introduced by individuals with no leadership skills whom instead of looking for solutions to real problems hide behind the shield of immigrants.
