Two years ago while massive pro-immigrant rallies were making headlines, my wife of twentyone years was dying of a brain tumor. I was only working a few hours a week so that I could spend time with her. She had lost her memory, she was rapidly going blind, and she was confined to a wheelchair at 49 years of age. She was a few weeks away from her death. I asked a relative to look after her so I could go to one of the rallies. When I came home a few hours later, she asked me where I had been. I told her I was at the big rally for immigrant rights. She looked up at me from her chair, smiled wryly, and said "And you didn't take me?".
Thank you so much for sharing this moment between you and your wife with us Pat and thank you for the work you do.

Awe Pat, thank you for sharing...it just goes to show that illness may take our bodies....but they never take our spirit :)
