The letter to Newsday:
Most people recognize that fixing our broken immigration system will be good for everyone—whatever your immigration status, or if you’re native-born.
We need to get all immigrants on the right side of the law so they can come out of the shadows and fully contribute to out economy (though many are doing so already by paying taxes, while avoiding using city services).
The way to do that is through comprehensive immigration reform. The centerpiece of reform is an earned path to legalization, for immigrants who learn English, play by the rules and come under the umbrella of the law.
