The Welcoming Long Island Initiative

Welcoming Long Island, an initiative of Long Island Wins, is a collaboration of concerned Long Islanders from all walks of life – business, law enforcement, community and faith – who are proud that Long Island is a welcoming community, and are working to continue that noble tradition by increasing understanding of how new Long Islanders share our values, contribute to our economy, enhance our combined culture, and strengthen our communities. Welcoming Long Island is part of a national, grassroots-driven collaborative that works to promote understanding and respect between recent immigrants and their U.S. born neighbors.

Most Long Islanders agree that we are and should continue to be hospitable, empathetic people. We have a responsibility to treat everyone – neighbors and visitors alike – with respect and dignity.

In pursuit of these values, Welcoming Long Island holds public forums, educational presentations, and other community events to foster an open dialogue about immigration and new Long Islanders. Welcoming Long Island strives to create an atmosphere where the concerns of all residents are recognized, strong vibrant communities continue to be built, and policies are created that benefit all.
