Tickets are on sale now for CARECEN’s 27th Annual Dinner to be held on November 16 at Westbury Manor.
Headlining the event will be a keynote speech by Eliseo Medina of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Eliseo has led the national labor movement’s efforts to pass immigration reform. Michele Lynch, also from SEIU, will be honored for her role in deepening the involvement of Long Island unions in campaigns for justice for immigrants.
Also being honored are Lawrence Mulvey, Nassau County Police Commissioner, who developed new approaches to police-immigrant community relations and who has been an outstanding advocate for programs designed to protect at-risk populations from hate crimes.
Latina leader Renee Ortiz is being honored for her role in incorporating immigrants into an at times hostile Suffolk County government and for her work on hate crimes issues. And Charlotte Koons is receiving CARECEN’s Justice and Peace Award for her long-standing activism in defense of human and civil rights.
