A crowd of about 250 people gathered in Hempstead to call for comprehensive immigration reform. They marched several blocks through the village to hear speeches condemning Arizona’s anti-immigrant law, supporting the boycott of that state, and insisting that President Obama act now to legalize the country’s 10.8 million undocumented immigrants.

A rally is also being held in Southampton.

More than 50 rallies are planned around the United States today.

Newsday’s coverage is here.
