A Break From The Mundane With Youth For Western Civilization

Whenever the pressures of life get too heavy, I like to visit the web site of Youth For Western Civilization (YWC) to see what the heirs to Charles Martel are up to. YWC fancies itself America’s Right Wing Youth Movement, although with just a couple of hundred members it is unlikely to move anything soon. YWC’s website is a sort of crying towel for priviledged white college students intent on convincing the world that they are “oppressed” (Yup, they use that word).

Here is a sampling of examples of the hot whip of white subordination of which the Western Youth are apparently the victims.

First, there is the dumping of the University of Mississippi mascot. The University used to have a mascot called Old Reb who was based on a Confederate Colonel who fought against the United States in order to maintain slavery. Here is how the Western Youth describe their fight:

History has shown that appeasement doesn’t work. Leftists went after the Confederate flag at Ole Miss football games. Then Colonel Reb was forced into retirement. But that wasn’t good enough. So Dixie and “The South will rise again” had to be banned at football games. Now “Admiral Ackbar” is being pushed as the new mascot. A few years from now, the same agitators (although they deny this) will be demanding that Ole Miss rename the football team, as the term “Rebels” can be construed as another politically incorrect reminder of the Confederacy.

Should Jackson, MS be renamed as well? President Andrew Jackson was a slaveowner who ethnically cleansed the Choctaw Indians from Mississippi. How many cities and counties in Mississippi are named after white racists? How many of those towns are graced by Confederate monuments in town squares? The list goes on and on. A dangerous precedent has been set here. It could one day lead to a Soviet Union style cleansing of Mississippi place names and historic markers.

We are already sliding down that slippery slope. If we don’t start fighting back, the Iron Curtain of political correctness will continue to smother our Southern heritage.

Now that is a lot to swallow in one gulp. The Confederate flag was regularly displayed at U. of M. football games after the segregated school was integrated by court order. And the battle cry “The South Shall Rise Again”, a reference to a reconstituted Confederacy, was regularly shouted at African American football players on the gridiron.

Now it may surprise you that a group which claims to be patriotic would take up the cause of a symbol of a failed revolt against the greatest country in the history of the world. Or that a group which claims to be about the Western Heritage would also try to preserve “our (read: “white”) Southern heritage”. But this is not more confusing than YWC’s choice of a symbol, the hammer used by Charles Martel to smash the heads of Muslims, which it displays proudly on pages bashing the French. Martel was, of course, French.

The Western Youth also find themselves fighting a gallant rearguard action against the non-white hordes at that bastion of multi-cultural Stalinism, Boise State. You know, that really good football school with a weird (but cool) blue field. The YWCers believed that whites were oppressed there so “we decided to create Youth for Western Civilization here on campus, and fight back against this obvious intolerance and inequality. Our hope with starting a BSU chapter of Youth for Western Civilization is to promote conservative values and ideas such as protecting our borders and real multiculturalism which includes equality for all races not just minorities.” Yes, we don’t want just minorities to be equal, now do we?

And then there is the site’s take on immigration reform. Here is a bit of what YWC said this week:

Barack Obama, in a secretive meeting, has asked his staff to ready for an attempt to push an illegal alien amnesty through Congress before voters start paying attention.

Because we know from the health care debate that Obama’s legislative agenda moves faster than a greased pig through the arms of drunken Ole Miss alums.

The initiative will be led in the Senate by radical left-wing New York Senator Charles Schumer and liberal Republican Lindsay Graham.

I’ll just let that one sink in for a moment.

Then the demography department of YWC lets loose:

Although the LA Times claims there are only 10.8 million illegal aliens, many analysts estimate the total number of illegal aliens in the United States to be much more, including a report prepared by top financial analysts in 2005 which estimated the population at 20 million and growing, including an aunt of Barack Obama.

Barak Obama’s aunt is still growing? By the time comprehensive immigration reform passes she’ll be nine feet tall.

I liked this line:

Obama and the Senators have also not explained how they would enforce the proposed registration and tax requirements when they have thus far not been able or willing to enforce existing immigration laws.

Ummm, if undocumented immigrants don’t register, they won’t get legalized.

From among the great minds of Youth for Western Civilization we can expect to harvest the next generation of Haldemans and Ehrlichmans.
