In my look at the Minuteman Murders in Arizona, I have been examining the tie between accused killer Shawna Forde and Minuteman co-founder Jim Gilchrist. Gilchrist was the toast of the conservative town a couple of years ago. In fact, many politicians vied for his endorsement. These included many Republican luminaries. But only one Democrat got it, according to this three year old FOX News report. Gilchrist, whose national reputation is in tatters as the movement he started is mired in accusations of murder, robbery, and possible drug trafficking, was asked by FOX for his reaction to the political response to his call to armed vigilance at the border:
Gilchrist called [Senator John] McCain a “traitor” and said he could name only a few in Congress whom he would personally support — Tancredo and Rep. James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin in the House; Sens. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Jon Kyl of Arizona and Trent Lott of Mississippi. All are Republicans.
“These three senators are about the only three patriots in the U.S. Senate,” Gilchrist said.
Gilchrist said only about 25 percent of Republicans are on the same page as him, and even fewer Democrats. In fact, only one — Suffolk County, N.Y., County Executive Steve Levy — came to mind.
