Anti-Immigrant Law Begins To Hit Arizona Colleges
The New York Times reports that colleges in Arizona are getting calls from students and parents concerned about the state’s new anti-immigrant law. According to the article:
Some out-of-state students have already told the University of Arizona they are not coming” because of the state’s new immigration law, Andrea Fuller writes in an article on the Web site of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Melissa Vito, vice president for student affairs at the University of Arizona, told The Chronicle that “as many as 10 students or parents have already e-mailed to turn down offers of admission in light of the law.” Some are Hispanic and “concerned about racial profiling,” The Chronicle writes, while others are “parents who say they do not want their children going to college in Arizona on principle.”
Ms. Vito is quoted as saying, “The problem is, it creates a perception about the state.”
