Conor Oberst Song Considers the Lives Divided by the Border

In response to the Arizona anti-immigrant law, Conor Oberst has released a new song about a man separated from the woman he loves by the border.

I thought I’d also include this video of Woody Guthrie’s great song Deportees sung by his son Arlo. It still makes me cry to hear it.

 

Since I’m posting some moody music, here is one that may be about a refugee hitting the Rio Grande or about all of us sinners up against the barriers to redemption, but which evokes many of the same feelings—Wide River to Cross sung by Levon Helm and his daughter and written by Buddy Miller:
