The Arizona Star reports that two confidential informants warned the FBI in April 2009 that members of Minuteman American Defense were recruiting people to participate in home invasions to raise money for the Minutemen. On May 30, 2009, Minuteman leader Shawna Forde and two others invaded a home in Arivaca, Arizona, and executed a little girl, Brisenia Flores, and her father. They also shot the girl’s mother.
The two informants have been active in the Minuteman movement for several years. They were contacted by Forde, who tried to recruit them into her home invasion plan. The informants say they told the FBI about Forde’s plan prior to the killings.
After the killings, Forde and other members of Minuteman American Defense were planning additional home invasions and hoped to recruit more men. She told one of the informants that her hands were “already dirty” and that she needed to recruit someone who could “pull the trigger.” She said that new recruits would start by attacking “soft targets.” The conversation was taped by the FBI.
