Fourth Day of Hunger Strike in Support of the DREAM Act

This afternoon I received an email alerting me that the students on hunger strike in support of the DREAM Act are in the middle of their fourth day without eating, and that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) still hasn’t introduced the bill.

The senator unveiled a broader immigration reform blueprint back in April, but the “Starved 4 Dream” group is calling for him to introduce the DREAM Act on its own.

I called Schumer’s D.C. office (202-224-6542) to voice my concern, but I couldn’t reach a real person. After five minutes or so on hold, the line disconnected.

Where are Schumer’s priorities? He’s the Chairman of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee and there’s no one staffing his phone lines on a Friday afternoon at 2:25pm?

Four students are waiting outside your midtown Manhattan office, starving themselves to bring attention to a piece of legislation that could impact hundreds of thousands of students across the country.

Answer the phone.
