Jurors in the trial of Jeffrey Conroy, accused of stabbing and killing Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero in a November 2008 hate attack, are entering their fourth day of deliberations.
On Friday, deliberations continued until after 10pm, with jurors, Justice Doyle, and reporters in the gallery unable to disguise yawns as the court listened to Det. John McLeer’s testimony on cross examination, approximately three hours long. Afterward, few seemed pleased with Doyle’s decision to deliberate into the night.
McLeer was the lead detective on the Lucero case, and his testimony references much of the case’s core evidence, including a written statement by Conroy in which he confesses to the stabbing. To see that statement and other documents related to the case, click here.
