Get Out the Vote in Suffolk This Saturday, November 5

Latino and African-American Leaders Gather to Mark Unprecedented Non-Partisan Voter Mobilization in Suffolk County

What: Get Out the Vote mobilization and press conference to mark the final stage in a month of action to increase voter participation in working-class communities of color in Suffolk County.

On Saturday, November 5, the Long Island Civic Engagement Table (LICET) will host a Get Out the Vote effort and press conference to mark the final stage in a month of action to increase voter participation in working-class communities of color in Suffolk County.

As part of a final Get Out the Vote push, volunteers from Make the Road New York, New York Communities for Change, and other community organizations will gather to reach out to voters on the final weekend before Election Day. For too long, working-class communities in Suffolk County—particularly those of color—have remained disengaged from local and county politics. This effort aims to rally voters to the polls as a critical step towards demanding accountability from elected officials.

The Long Island Civic Engagement Table is a new initiative to transform the culture of civic participation and government accountability in Long Island. The Table does this by nurturing grassroots participation and leadership in working-class communities, particularly in communities of color. The Table seeks to work with these communities to turn the tide of anti-working class and anti-immigrant politics and build a common platform for working people.
