Glenn Beck attacked Congressman Pete Stark last week after the congressman got into an argument with a Minuteman who showed up at a town hall meeting. After insulting the congressman as a “sack of sarcasm,” Beck defended the Minutemen, saying:
...the fact is there has never been a border shooting involving a minuteman, not one — zero. None. No violent episodes from the minutemen
Beck must know that two leaders of the Minuteman American Defense group, affiliated with the Minuteman Project, are sitting in jail accused of murdering grammar school student Brisenia Flores and her father and of shooting Brisenia’s mother, as well. The crimes occurred a short distance from the Arizona border.
He should also be aware that the largest Minuteman group, Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, had to disband recently when its call for violent patrols by its members sparked an outcry.
The leaders of the two groups, Jim Gilchrist and Chris Simcox, have appeared frequently on FOX News, so how could Beck be unaware of these facts? Okay, Simcox has gone into hiding after his ex-wife sought an order of protection against him. She is the third ex who has claimed that Simcox is dangerous. And Gilchrist has been less in the media glare after his protege Shawna Forde was accused of premeditated murder. But Beck must have fact checkers.
And Beck need not take my word for the dangerous proclivities of the Minutemen. Minuteman co-founder Jim Gilchrist recently said that some minuteman groups were “fascist-like.”
