Help Victims of Superstorm Sandy

The Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association have joined forces to help our victims of Hurricane Sandy

HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF EFFORT

Please come donate to our charity drive on Monday, November 19, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Wicker’s Restaurant located at 206 West Old Country Road, Hicksville, NY 11801 (516) 605-2300. Please spread the word to others.

The LIHCC and LIHBA coalition will be collecting monetary donations, made payable to the “Long Island Hispanic Bar Association
Community Service Fund” or “LIHBACSF” (a non-profit 401(c) tax exempt organization). This money will be donated to the United Way - Unmet Needs Roundtable. The Unmet Needs Roundtable is the charity of last resort for people who do not have other avenues available to them (i.e., FEMA grants or insurance). We ask that donations be made to the LIHBACSF, and not to Unmet directly, because Unmet has agreed to earmark LIHBACSF money to assist Hispanic immigrants affected by Hurricane Sandy. By donating to the LIHBACSF, we can ensure the donations are earmarked accordingly.

We will also be collecting food and supply donations if you prefer to donate in that manner. Items such as canned goods, flashlights, batteries, diapers, baby formula/food, baby bottles, cleaning supplies, face masks, water, garbage bags, brooms, mops, blankets, coats and scarves are in high demand. We will also accept other clothing if the clothing is in good condition. Please separate any clothing based on gender and age (i.e., Adult Male, Adult Female, Youth Male, Youth Female, Baby Male, Baby Female). Many organizations are not accepting used clothing because of their storage capacity—we need the clothing separated so that we can distribute the clothing efficiently directly to the people who need it most.

If you cannot attend the charity drive and would like to send a monetary donation to the LIHBACSF to help our victims of Hurricane Sandy, please forward the donation to LIHBACSF, P.O. Box 8003, Miller Place, NY 11764 and write “Unmet” in the “Notes” area of the check. Thank you and we hope to see you at the drive!
