I Don’t Think I’ll Burn My Koran on September 11

By now, we all know that a church is Florida is calling on Christians to burn the Koran on September 11 this year. Readers of this blog know that I went after this church last year when kids affiliated with it began wearing t-shirts proclaiming “Islam is of the Devil.” But that insane abuse of children did not get a lot of attention because no one in his right mind agreed with the sentiment behind the statement.

A dozen months later, we’re not so sure.

We’ve all been surprised by at least one friend or relative teed off at the Muslims this year. Not like Muslims collectively are doing anything much different this year, but the politics of xenophobia in the shadow of the November elections has lit a cauldron of hate.

So I wonder if the woman I know circulating an anti-Muslim petition is going to buy a Koran in order to burn it?
