In spite of bad weather and swine flu fears, immigration rights rallies took place in dozens of cities and towns around the United States. Nearly 5,000 marched in Detroit. Large rallies also took place in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Hempstead had one of the first rallies of the day. After the rally, many Long Islanders headed into New York to join several thousand protesters in the city. If you check this link you can watch video of Carlos Canales of the Workplace Project addressing the issue of immigration reform.
