“Islam Is of the Devil” T-Shirts

A church is pressing children into its campaign against Islam. Students in the public schools in Gainesville, Florida, have been encouraged by a local evangelical church to wear t-shirts with the message “Islam Is of the Devil” on them.
Gainesville, home of the University of Florida, has many Muslim immigrants living in the diverse city. Many came to teach at the university or were students who decided to stay in the community after graduation. Local Muslim leaders are concerned that their children are being made to feel unwelcome at the school.
School officials have been calling parents of the children involved and informing them that the t-shirts violate the school’s dress code. Children as young as ten have been participating in the anti-Muslim action.
