Jeffrey Conroy Trial: Second Day of Jury Deliberations

I’m at criminal court in Riverhead today, where jurors are beginning their second day of deliberations in the trial of Jeffrey Conroy, who stands accused of stabbing and killing Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero in November 2008.

Television and news reporters are camped out at the courthouse, awaiting any news of a verdict. Although deliberations are obviously closed to the public, Judge Doyle will address requests made by the jury.

Yesterday, Newsday reported that the jury asked for clarifications of the two highest charges against Conroy, second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. The jury also asked to be read the definition of reasonable doubt and for photos of the defendants.

At the end of the day yesterday, the jury asked for some sort of clarification (no solid details on this), which Judge Doyle will address this morning.
