Jeffrey Conroy Trial: The Charges and Potential Sentences

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office supplied me with a list of the charges against Jeffrey Conroy in relation to the alleged murder of Marcelo Lucero, and alleged attacks on Angel Loja, Hector Sierra, and Octavio Cordova.

Here are the charges, along with the possible sentences that accompany them:

1.  Murder in the 2nd degree, as a Hate Crime –

          A-1 felony - least sentence 20 to life / greatest sentence 25 to life

2.  Murder in the 2nd degree –

          A-1 felony - least sentence 15 years to life / greatest sentence 25 to life

3.  Manslaughter in the 1st degree, as a Hate Crime –

          B violent felony - 8 years min / 25 years max

4.  Manslaughter in the 1st degree

          B violent felony – 5 years min / 25 years max

5.  Manslaughter in the 2nd degree, as a Hate Crime

          B felony – 6 to 18 years indeterminate min / 8 1/3 to 25 years indeterminate max

6.  Manslaughter in the 2nd degree

          C felony – 1 to 3 years indeterminate min / 5 to 15 years indeterminate max

7.  Gang Assault in the 1st degree –

          B violent felony - 5 years min / 25 years max

8.  Conspiracy in the 4th degree -

          E felony – 1 to 3 years indeterminate min / 1 1/3 to 4 years indeterminate maximum

9.  Attempted Assault in the 2nd degree, as a Hate Crime – re: Angel Loja

          D violent felony – 2 1/3 years min / 7 years max

10.  Attempted Assault in the 2nd degree – re: Angel Loja

          E violent felony – 1 1/3 years min / 4 years max

11.  Attempted Assault in the 3rd degree, as a Hate Crime – re: Angel Loja

          an A misdemeanor – 1 year in jail

12.  Attempted Assault in the 3rd degree – re: Angel Loja

          B misdemeanor – 3 months in jail

13.  Attempted Assault in the 2nd degree, as a Hate Crime – re: Hector Sierra

          D violent felony – 2 1/3 years min / 7 years max

14.  Attempted Assault in the 2nd degree – re: Hector Sierra

          E violent felony – 1 1/3 years min / 4 years max

15.  Attempted Assault in the 3rd degree, as a Hate Crime – re: Hector Sierra

          an A misdemeanor – 1 year in jail

16.  Attempted Assault in the 3rd degree – re: Hector Sierra

          B misdemeanor – 3 months in jail

17.  Attempted Assault in the 2nd degree, as a Hate Crime – re: Octavio Cordovo

          D violent felony – 2 1/3 years min / 7 years max
