Job Opening: Senior Organizer, La Fuente / Long Island Civic Participation Project

La Fuente empowers immigrants, workers, and their communities to take action through grassroots organizing, leadership development, and issue education. We work in collaboration with labor unions, faith institutions, and community organizations to build a movement for a just society. We are hiring a senior organizer to continue building our base for immigrant community activism in Hempstead and surrounding areas in Nassau County through our Long Island Civic Participation Project (LICPP).

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to build on our accomplishments and lead a team of committed community member leaders to further successes for immigrants and workers on Long Island. The organizer’s primary responsibilities include:

—Conduct outreach and recruitment via phone calls, mailings, house visits, and meetings with union and community members.
—Work closely with members to develop their leadership and create new opportunities for leadership development.
—Hold monthly committee meetings or other engagement activities.
—Build and maintain relationships with local elected officials, community allies (CBO’s, churches, mosques, parent associations, local coalitions, etc.), and local media.
—Develop and maintain local campaigns that develop leadership, engage members, and create visible change in the community.
—Help conduct leadership development programs and trainings for youth and adult members.
—Maintain and update database regularly.
—Participate in staff meetings in New York City.
—Write regular updates, blog posts, or newsletter articles on work with committee.

Qualifications:
—Proven ability to work independently with little supervision;
—Prior experience working with or knowledge of Nassau County;
—2-3 years of experience organizing with community organizations and/or labor unions;
—Coalition building and outreach skills;
—Team building and leadership development skills;
—Experience implementing grassroots action and policy campaigns;
—Familiarity with software applications in a Windows environment;
—Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings;
—Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation;
—Ability to communicate in Spanish and English is required; and
—Commitment and passion for social justice.

The Long Island Civic Participation Project office is based in Hempstead, but some travel to New York City is required to coordinate with other La Fuente staff. To apply, please email a cover letter, resume, and three references to:
