Jury Selection Begins in PA Hate Killing

Jury selection has begun in the Luis Ramirez hate-killing case. Ramirez was attacked by a group of white high school students in 2008 and killed after suffering a severe beating. The young men accused in the case were acquitted of all major charges by a local jury. They were subsequently indicted on federal civil rights charges.

In 2008 and 2009, I wrote extensively about this case, in which a cover-up of the killing by local police led to corruption charges against a majority of the local police department. I will cover this trial and give background on the killing in coming days.
