Levy helped form an anti-immigrant group

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy drew the criticism of the New York Times two years ago when he formed an anti-immigrant association of local officials. The organization, dubbed Mayors and County Executives for Immigration Reform, initially presented itself as a forum for discussion about the impact of immigration on localities, but its real agenda became clear at its first meeting two years ago. Instead of a panel of experts on immigration issues, the attendees were treated to a non-stop parade of anti-immigrant speakers from organizations like FAIR, a hate group to which Levy has frequently turned for counsel in the past.
