McCain Sotomayor Vote A Bow To Minutemen

Sen. John McCain surprised some with his announced opposition to Judge Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court. But he may be trying to crack off a piece of the Arizona Minuteman vote, small and crazy though it may be. See, his main opposition next year to winning yet another term in the Senate comes from Minuteman co-founder Chris Simcox.
Now the Minuteman vote might be expected to be miniscule, but recent weeks have taught us that McCain’s party has been increasingly dominated by conspiracy theorists and tinfoil hat wearers. If the birthers, for example, could win over 58% of Republicans to questioning the President’s place of birth, imagine what the Minutemen could do.
These are folks who confuse Latino with “Illegal” anyway (as does one of Long Island’s Democrats), so to them Sotomayor is likely just another Latina taking a job that should have gone to a white man.
