The district attorney’s office plans to call a medical examiner and a blood specialist to the stand today in the murder trial of Jeffrey Conroy, who is accused of stabbing and killing Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero in a November 2008 hate attack.
Newsday’s Carl MacGowan has a preview from criminal court in Riverhead:
Jurors were expected to hear testimony from the medical examiner about the autopsy of Marcelo Lucero, 37, of Patchogue, an Ecuadorean immigrant who prosecutors say was stabbed to death by Conroy on Nov. 8, 2008.
The blood specialist was expected to testify about stains found on the knife that prosecutors say Conroy, 19, of Medford used to stab Lucero. The specialist was also to testify about bloodstains on the back of Conroy’s pants.
After today’s testimony, court will adjourn for the Easter holiday until Monday.
