More on Utah List of Alleged Undocumented Immigrants

Earlier today, I reported on the release of a list of 1,300 people alleged to be undocumented immigrants living in Utah. The list included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses, and other information on the named individuals. More than 200 of those on the list are children.

The letter was received by a number of state and local governmental entities as well as by the Department of Homeland Security. Some media outlets also obtained it.

According to the Deseret News, one of Utah’s two largest newspapers, all of the names on the list are Spanish, even though many people without Spanish names are undocumented and live in Utah.

The Deseret News reports the contents of the letter, which included the following statements:

The letter said the list was sent “to insist that your agency take immediate and forceful action to the individuals on this list and begin deportation now.”

The letter included the names and due dates of several pregnant women and said: “Some of the women on the list are pregnant at this time and steps should be taken for immediate deportation.”

The letter, from the previously unknown group, the Concerned Citizens of the United States, says the group “observes these people in our neighborhoods, driving on our streets, working in our stores, attending our schools and entering our public welfare buildings.” It claims to use undercover agents to gather information on Latinos.

The letter warns the recipients that “If we do not observe quick action, you will be welcome to explain to the media and the rest of the citizens in the state why you did not perform your duty. ...We will be listening and watching.”

UPDATE: Utah concludes state database was breached.
