A group of immigration advocates met with the U.S. Department of Justice on Monday to ask that the department expand an ongoing federal investigation to focus on infighting between Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and his longtime hate crimes commander, who was removed from command in January.

A dozen print and broadcast outlets huddled outside the U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building in Central Islip for the press conference, which featured representatives from the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Long Island Immigrant Alliance, and the Empire Justice Center.
