Jury selection in the trial of Jeffrey Conroy, the teen accused of stabbing and killing Ecuadorian immigrant Marcelo Lucero, continued today in Riverhead, but no new jurors were selected.
Seven jurors have been picked thus far, but five more jurors and four alternates remain to be selected.
Several news sources have reported what Long Island Wins noted on the first day of selection—that immigration views have played a major role in determining whether potential jurors can be fair or not. Both The New York Times and Gothamist have reported on the admitted intolerance of some potential jurors in regards to immigrants.
Jury selection will continue at 10am tomorrow.
If you missed my post yesterday, I wrote about why Marcelo Lucero’s mother may not be able to attend the start of the trial for her son’s accused killer. For that post, click here.
