The wave of pro-immigrant rallies continued into its fifth day today. Since my last report, word has come on a number of local rallies around the country, culminating in the big Phoenix rally today.
The Arizona Republic reports that police estimate that 10,000 people participated in a demonstration today in Phoenix protesting abuses by Sheriff Joe Arpaio and calling for comprehensive immigration reform.
There was a rally of 250 people in accused Minuteman murderer Shawna Forde’s hometown of Everett, Washington. They carried a basket containing apples, tulips potatoes, and squash, which they presented to their Congressional representative saying the produce represented some of their contribution to the state’s economy.
One hundred people marched in California’s San Bernadino. Hartford’s mayor called for legalization of the undocumented at a rally there yesterday.
At the Phoenix rally a small disturbance broke out when several men dressed in black and with their faces covered, apparently began a fight. It is unclear who they were, although one man was arrested.
