Postponed Immigration Reform Meeting Between Obama and Senators Moved to Thursday

An immigration reform meeting between President Obama and Senators Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), which was originally scheduled for Monday, has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 3pm, Roll Call reports.

Schumer has repeatedly stressed that he’ll need another Republican cosponsor before introducing an immigration reform bill, but now it appears that Schumer and Graham are working on a stripped-down version of the bill that will focus on instituting a national biometric ID card. Privacy concerns have been raised around the identification cards by groups like the American Civil Liberties Union.

According to Roll Call:

The president has vowed to pass comprehensive immigration reform, but the issue stalled as health care reform has dominated the Congressional agenda. For now, Schumer and Graham are reportedly drafting a pared-down proposal focused on the creation of a national biometric identification card that would be required for all American workers.
