Since winning the Republican nomination for governor of New York, Buffalo real estate developer Carl Paladino has shrugged off criticism for sending racist emails (according to the New York Post, “one featured a doctored photo of President and Michelle Obama, dressed like a ‘70s-era pimp and prostitute, and another used the n-word above a photo of African-Americans”), passing around porn videos (allegedly of Miss France 2008), and flat-out crudity (his website homepage features an image of his Democratic opponent Andrew Cuomo that reads “No Cojones”).
On Long Island, some local leaders have taken umbrage with Paladino’s views, and a group of elected officials, clergy members, and Suffolk residents plan to gather in Patchogue at 2pm today to denounce the Republican’s candidacy.
Suffolk County Legislator Vivian Viloria-Fisher (D-Setauket) will speak at the rally, which will be held near the Patchogue train station at Division Street and Ocean Avenue.
In a recent interview with the New York City blog Feet in 2 Worlds, Paladino said that undocumented immigrants should be given “a clear path to go home.”
