The recent murder of a rancher along the Arizona border with Mexico has increased fears in the area of violence in northern Mexico spilling over into the United States. While there is no evidence pointing to a Mexican national as the perpetrator, the ranch of Robert Krentz was often used after illegal border crossings by immigrant smugglers and drug traffickers. A Border Patrol agent in the area said he could think of no other instances where an American civilian had been killed by a border crosser.
