Saturday Night Live: Ariz. Immigration Law Reeks of Fascism

The new immigration law in Arizona, SB 1070, which will require immigrants to carry documents verifying their immigration status and invite racial profiling of the state’s Latino residents, continues to make headlines on the comedy news circuit, as well as in the mainstream media.

“Saturday Night Live” was one of the most recent TV shows to blast the law for authorizing police procedures that resemble fascism. Here’s part of what Seth Myers had to say on “Weekend Update:”

I know there are some people in Arizona who are worried that Obama’s acting like Hitler, but can we all agree that there’s nothing more Nazi than saying, “Show me your papers?” There’s never been a World War II movie that didn’t include the line, “Show me your papers.” It’s their catch phrase. Every time someone says, “Show me your papers,” Hitler’s family gets a residual check.

Here’s the entire episode via Hulu. “Weekend Update” begins around the 27-minute mark.
