Thomas F. O’Neill, the former mayor of Shenadoah, says he was forced to leave the town he had been mayor of after immigrant Luis Ramirez was murdered. O’Neill had made efforts to try and bring immigrants and natives together in the Pennsyvania town following Ramirez’s death at the hands of six white teens. His work was resented by many in the white community and he says he was the target of a harrassment campaign when he tried to get the local cops off the case..
In an interview broadcast on NPR, O’Neill said; “My tires were slashed, back window was shot out with pellets. On New Year’s Eve, my front window, there was an explosive attached to the window and that was blown out,”
