A major study from UCLA looks at the economic impact of legalization on the United States economy. The study uses data from the last large-scale legalization program authored by Ronald Regan in 1986 to predict that as immigrants legalize, their educational levels will increase, their productivity will go up, and they will become a major source of new tax revenues. Over a ten year period, immigration reform is expected to add an estimated $1.5 trillion to the U.S. GDP.
I’ll post more on this study next week after I’ve read the entire paper.
