Three white teenagers, believed to be ages 14 to 17, posted stickers that referenced “white pride” and Nazism on a lamp post and on street signs in Bellmore on Sunday, according to the Nassau County Police Department. The police are seeking the alleged perpetrators and investigating the incident as a bias crime.
Two weeks ago, Nassau cops nabbed a Brooklyn taxi driver for allegedly dropping scraps of paper with anti-Semitic messages on county streets.
The Nassau County Police Department held a press briefing regarding the incident this afternoon. Newsday reports:
Police said the trio, believed to be males between the ages of 14 and 17 years old, were spotted by a local business owner out walking his dog. The man saw one teen slap a sticker on a lamppost along Bedford Avenue. He saw one of the teens put another on a sign near a restaurant, police said.
At that point, Nassau police spokesman Det. Lt. Kevin Smith said, the man yelled to the teens and, “One yelled back something to the effect of ‘white supremacy’ or ‘white power’” and then they continued up the street.”
The man called police.
Smith said there have been at least two other incidents within the past month in Bellmore and other stickers have been found. Police said those stickers have been traced to an online white supremacist site offering stickers for sale.
Police said they are reviewing surveillance video seeking to identify the teens. They also said that the trio could be charged with an E class felony which specifically prohibits posting Nazi-related messages in public.
Here’s the departmental release regarding the incident:
