That Danged Fence
John McCain’s much laughed at new “complete the danged fence” ad has provoked a very funny musing by an Arizona reporter. Tim Steller of the Arizona Star writes:
In the climax of the ad — with the wind howling eerily in the background — McCain says “Complete the danged fence.” In fact, that line comes with its own Web site, completethedangedfence.com, which redirects to a Web page explaining McCain’s border plan.
But that last sentence, while seeming clear, stands out even more: “Senator, you’re one of us,” says Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu.
The question that I keep mulling over is, who is us?
[T]here’s the interpretation… that says “You’re one of us” means you’re a crazy, racist Arizona conservative.
