The strange minds of the Youth for Western Civilization

Youth for Western Civilization continues to draw headlines, particularly on Murdoch-owned outlets, for its confrontational push to create a “right-wing youth movement”. The anti-immigrant group employs the latest Web 2.0 techniques to spread its message that Western Civilization can only be saved by a bunch of frat boys on a political beer run. So I thought I’d take a look at the group’s facebook page to see what the level of discussion by our saviours is. Now, of course, postings on facebook by an organization’s members don’t constitute the official positions of the organization. But the page’s moderator says he has taken down particularly offensive postings, so I guess the ones I saw were at least acceptable.
These guys, and they almost all self-identify as men, are worried and angry.
For example, “Chad” is ticked off because conservatives need to understand that the “enemy” of the West is the U.S. Constitution. He writes: “many members… defend the US constitution, which is the embodiment of leftism; eg, revolution, republicanism, secularism, etc - all of the cancers which destroyed western civilization.” “Chad” then approvingly highlights a quote from his intellectual mentor at the Free Congress Foundation:
“A bright young man who served on a panel with me at an intelligence conference earlier this year said during a break, “A lot of us read your On War columns, but there are two things we don’t get. We don’t get your dislike of technology and we don’t get the Prussian monarchy stuff.” Readers interested in the former may turn to my piece in an early issue of The American Conservative. But with the shadow of 1914 looming ever larger over us, I thought this might be a good time to explain “the Prussian monarchy stuff.”Of course, like all real conservatives, I am a monarchist. The universe is not a republic. My specific attachment to the House of Hohenzollern grew as I began to comprehend the Prussian/German way of war and its vast difference from the Franco/American approach.”
Chad finishes up with the following not-very-conservative sounding proposals:
1. burn the US constitution
2. update and readopt the articles of confederation
3. rejoin the Kingdom of Great Britain with its monarch as our head of state
not only does our government have no use for its constitution, but neither of our two parties give a damn about it either. our union is inevitably going to crumble, so it would be best to head off the consequences of that by readopting the mechanism which allowed the several states to function as states to begin with. since we’ve completely squandered our revolution by trying to emulate the empire from which we broke, it would make a lot more sense to turn over those aspirations to folks who are infinitely more qualified at maintaining a global empire than we are. I believe that those of us who truly are naturally conservative would be right at home under those conditions, and it’s an option that we should certainly consider.
Now “Chad” may seem extreme, but he is one of the more moderate posters. In fact, in a discussion about immigration, he notes that many Latino immigrants bring strong values to America. He is quickly taken to task by most of the other posters who join “Hunter” in saying that:
Allowing mass immigration from south of the border isn’t only economically stupid, it is racial and cultural suicide. This group is not “Youth for Jesus” or “Youth for American Values like Hardwork”; it is Youth for WESTERN CIVILIZATION. Western Civilization is inherently white. Immigration from the third world is the main reason for the decline of Western values and why so many modern-day Americans have no respect for their own culture.
The premise that the vast majority of Latinos are God-fearing people with good values seems to ignore some very uncomfortable truths about what has happened (and is continuing to happen) in the areas of America that have seen a large influx of Hispanic immigration. Sure there are Latinos that have a good work ethic and are Christian. And yes, hardwork and Christianity are integral parts of Western Culture, but they are not the only components of Western Culture.
I’m not trying to be racist or make this group look bad, but what makes different cultures so interesting is their differences. Mass immigration from non-European countries will not save our culture, it will destroy it.
Another poster accused Chad of being a tool of the Jesuits who are apparently hell-bent on destroying the very Western culture that their Church helped to create. How Jesuitical!
While it was encouraging that a couple of others joined Chad in defending immigrants, much of the argument seemed to turn on whether Latinos are White and whether Catholicism is a Western religion.
I always like to know what my betters are thinking.
