What I’m Reading Now: The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest by Stieg Larsson (2010)

What I Just Finished Reading: The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson published by Vintage (2009)

This is the second of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series.  The books occupy the number one slot in the hardcover, and the numbers one and two slots in the paperback bestseller lists. The hero, Lisbeth Salander seems incredibly popular with readers as she extricates herself from life destroying threats through seemingly impossible acts of physical agility and mental acumen.

But….

I keep thinking that Lisbeth Salander is a left wing Jack Bauer. Female, not male. Tiny, not big and muscular. Bisexual, not Alpha hetero.

She is a loner superhero who manifests Asperger’s Syndrome. She doesn’t want anyone’s help in dealing punishment to the wicked.

But I thought the leftist message was, “We win by working together.”

You know, the image of a bunch of tiny fish eating the one big fish?

Anyway, volume two in the Steig Larsson series is as involving as volume one. But it it has the same problems as its predecessor.
