Created in 1993, the festival seeks to present films to diverse audiences and reinforce the role of African and African-descent directors in contemporary world cinema. This year they are presenting close to 100 titles, some of which are US premiers, like Africa United, An African-American Quest for Authenticity and the documentary 41st & Central: the Untold Story of the L.A. Black Panthers. The films are playing at The Riverside Theatre at Riverside Church and The Schomburg Center for Black Culture in Harlem.

For Thanksgiving, Food Not Bombs

This Thanksgiving Day, Long Island Food Not Bombs wants you to help them provide a lunch for low-income families in the Farmingville area as part of the “Long Island Food Not Bombs Thanksgiving Bonanza.” In addition to the fresh food and warm meals – which are completely vegetarian and mostly organic – they will be also collecting clothes, books, toiletries, and toys for families in need.

Volunteers and donors are encouraged to come up with their own tasty vegan recipes for this potluck-style event.
